Anne Moreau Never Stays Still

Anne Moreau develops a body of pictorial work that exists beyond traditional categories: neither realist nor symbolist, her art is grounded in constant movement, generating a space of vibrations that is open and elusive. The gaze oscillates between water, earth and sky, between immediate perception and living memory, never settling into a fixed image of the world.

Working in acrylic on geotextile canvases, she deconstructs and reconstructs reality through wave-like checkerboard structures that evoke the flow of time. Her work creates a space of emptiness, understood as an openness to breath and energy. For her, the painting is first and foremost an object, where materiality, surface, and pigments shape a direct sensory experience.

Her life journey, marked by travels along rivers and canals aboard her studio barge, followed by her installation in a lock keeper’s house, deeply nourishes this fluid and ever-evolving work. Since 1998, in Charente, she has pursued a demanding artistic inquiry in which painting becomes an act of revelation and inner tension.

Her practice oscillates between appearance and disappearance: painting one thing, then another, then an idea, until reaching a state where the image remains incomplete yet singular. Color plays an essential role: red, vibrant and incisive, engages in dialogue with whiteness and azure in an almost incantatory tension. Between density and void, violence and restraint, her work seeks balance, an anchoring necessary to contain and unfold the intensity of the pictorial gesture.
